Job Creation
Open The Door to New Jobs and Income in Kentucky!
Our region and state cannot stimulate economic growth without affordable housing for workers. More than 400 counties and cities in the U.S. have discovered this and created their own Affordable Housing Trust Funds. Consider this:
o An Affordable
Housing Trust Fund is essential to attracting big business. Large employers
consider the availability of affordable housing as a major criterion for re-location.
They require stable, convenient housing for employees near their work sites.
o No homes equals no workers. New homes equal more tax revenue!
o The average Metro Louisville childcare worker, home health aide, preschool
teacher, janitor, and retail salesperson cannot afford a 2-bedroom apartment.
Twelve of the 20 fastest growing occupations in the Louisville region fall into
this category.
o Every time a family can move into and stay in an affordable home, the
community benefits short-term because they become a taxpayer and long-term because
stable families translate into successful children.
o Federal funds are dwindling. Community Development Block Grant funds are being cut every year at the federal level. In FY 2006, it will be cut $500,000,000. Additionally, the funding for Section 8 will cut 1,793 vouchers in Kentucky. We cannot continue to be reliant on federal funds to house our working poor and our fragile populations.
